End-of-year competitions and awards

1. Annual Champion Awards

For December each year, the club calls for submissions to the annual champion awards:

  • Loris Peggie Projected Image of the Year
  • Black and White Projected Image of the Year
  • Print of the Year
  • Black and White Print of the Year

Members may submit up to two prints and/or projected images that have been accepted in any of the respective monthly print and/or projected images competitions of that calendar year. Members may also submit one B&W print and one B&W projected image that have been accepted in any of the respective monthly competitions of that calendar year.

The MPS Loris Peggie Projected Image of the Year is awarded to the champion projected image. This award honours Loris Peggie, who joined the Ringwood Amateur Photography Club in November 1962 and soon became involved on the committee where she served for 22 successive terms, including many years in a secretarial role and two terms as president from 1978 to 1980. In fact, she held every executive position except treasurer. During her term as president in 1979, Loris researched and was instrumental in producing the booklet on the club’s first 21 years. In recognition of her exceptional service to photography in Victoria, Loris was awarded a State Service Award from VAPS (SSVAPS) in 1976 and then in 1991, was made an Associate of the Australian Photographic Society (AAPS). In 1986, she gained 17 acceptances from seven national or international exhibitions. Loris still attends many club meetings.

2. MPS Photographer of the Year

An award is made to the member that has achieved the highest number scores of 14 and 15 (honours) in the monthly competitions that they have entered throughout the year. There is one award that takes in prints, black and white images and projcetd images into consideration.

3. End-of-Year Folio

The objective of the End-of-Year Folio is for the maker to tell a story about the set task using three separate prints and not to simply submit three images as a tryptch on the set task. The folio must contain three individual prints or a true triptych, not simply an image that is split into three parts.

4. Jack Milton Landscape/Seascape Projected Image

The annual Jack Milton landscape/seascape Projected Image competition is open to all members. The number of entries will be advised prior to the competition via the members’ website. Landscape is defined as a picture of natural scenery where land dominates the scene. Other features may be included providing they do not dominate the picture. Seascape is defined as a picture of natural scenery where water dominates the scene. Other features may be included providing they do not dominate the picture.

This award honours Jack Milton, who joined the Ringwood Amateurs in 1963. He was successful in the Warrnambool International over a period of several years, was keen on B&W photography, and instrumental in encouraging a print group within the club. He also served on the committee for several years and held the treasurer’s position from June 1968 until his untimely death, whilst in office, in July 1978.
